Equations using symbols and formulae

Example IV :

The first step is to write the correct formulae:

Unbalanced equation

Cu(OH)2

HNO3

Cu(NO3)2

H2O

Balanced equation

Cu(OH)2

2HNO3

Cu(NO3)2

2H2O

Before you work through some more examples just check again that you have the same number of each type of atom on both sides of the equation. Everything in brackets () is multiplied by the number outside the brackets.
