Exercise 1: The Spread of Islam

Islam had become the religion of most of Arabia by the time of Mohammed’s death in 632. Within a hundred years it had spread across the civilized world from the Atlantic to the Himalayas.
Use Pages 56 & 57 in "Understanding History" to answer the following questions:

Wherever they expanded and conquered, the Arabs learnt from, and adapted for themselves, the styles of architecture that they found. From they Byzantines they learnt the techniques of building pillars, arches and rounded domes for their mosques

Write or type entirely in your own words a paragraph on each of the following aspects of Arabic life in the Middle Ages. Use Pages 69, 70 & 71 in "Understanding History" to help you, as well as other sources (reference books, Internet, encyclopaedia, etc.).
